Take note, all of you epicureans out there: One of the not-so-secret highlights of the D.C. metro area’s summer calendar takes place in Alexandria in the form of the Vine on the Waterfront Food & Wine Festival. This culinary happening brings a plethora of delicious local food, Virginia-made wine, and entertainment to Old Town’s Oronoco Bay Park, smack dab along the Potomac.
The Taste of Alexandria
Come relish samples from diverse restaurants from Alexandria and the surrounding region—offerings spanning a delightfully wide range of foods and cuisines. The participating eateries compete for “Best Appetizer,” “Best Main Course,” and “Best Dessert” honors, and you and all the other Vine on the Waterfront attendees get to happily benefit from the stiff competition.
You can pair those delicacies, meanwhile, with fabulous vino from the Commonwealth, which with its grand spectrum of terroir and hundreds of wineries is the fifth-biggest winemaking state in the country. (You can learn more about Old Dominion's vineyards and varietals over at the richly informative Virginia Wine website.)
More Vine on the Waterfront Fun
Besides all the merry food sampling and wine tasting, Vine on the Waterfront features live music for a gustatory soundtrack, plus arts-and-crafts showcases and kid-friendly activities. It's truly an all-ages affair with a little something for everybody!
